Luke J. Curtsinger, III, M.D., FACS, is Board Certified in both General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. A highly experienced surgeon in his field, during the past 15 years he has performed well over 10,000 operations on both children and adults.

After attending the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana as a National Merit Scholar and a Notre Dame Scholar, Dr. Curtsinger completed his undergraduate education at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky, where he obtained his B.A. magna cum laude and was both a National Merit and an Alumni Scholar. He then earned his M.D. and graduated in the top 20% of his class at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky. He won several awards there, including the Ciba-Geigy Award for Community Service, the Tim Lee Carter Leadership Award and the Alpha Omega Alpha Outstanding Senior Student Award.
Dr. Curtsinger completed his General Surgery Residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas, earning several honors including induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, the Outstanding House Officer Award and the J.B. Aust Surgical Society Research Award for three years (1988, 1990, 1991). He completed Fellowships in both Wound Healing at the University of Louisville and in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
After his post-doctoral training, Dr. Curtsinger was an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Plastic Surgery at East Carolina University and won awards for teaching medical students. He has also given over 100 presentations for local, regional and national audiences, earned numerous grants to study the growth of skin and wound healing, and authored over 15 scientific papers focused mainly on the healing of skin as well as breast, chest and abdominal wall reconstruction. He helped to co-found the University Hospital Skin Bank in Louisville, Kentucky. His current interests include the study of nutrition for longevity and optimal health.
Dr. Curtsinger is married and has four children. He and his family enjoy cooking together, tennis, water sports and travel. A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Dr. Curtsinger is no stranger to Southern hospitality and is pleased to be a part of the Savannah community.
