ThermiVa is a new non-surgical treatment pending FDA approval for labia and vaginal tightening.
Although it is not yet FDA approved, patients report that treatment with ThermiVa has been effective in helping reduce vaginal dryness and atrophy, reducing urinary leakage, and helping improve symptoms or orgasmic dysfunction. It may also help reduce mild to moderate pelvic prolapse symptoms by shrinkage of vaginal tissues and helping improve muscular coordination and strength.
How does the ThermiVa treatment work?
Radiofrequency’s therapeutic effects on muscular and tissue healing is well known and used in physical therapy practices for decades.
A handpiece delivers radiofrequency energy to tighten external and internal vulvovaginal tissue via a thermistor tip which is able to control heat delivered. The tip has gentle curves that provide comfort.
Using the controlled radiofrequency energy, external (labia) and internal vaginal (laxity) looseness is treated by transferring heat directly to the desired vaginal region.
Specifically, it contracts the tissues to a tighter bundle and encourages new collagen production. It may help with tissue and nerve healing.
What conditions does ThermiVa help treat?
Vaginal Laxity: Tightening can be achieved at the opening and the full length of the vagina. Improvement is noticeable to patient and partner.
Vulvar/Labial Laxity: Labial tissues are tightened and sagging is reduced, minimizing visibility and resulting in noticeably softer and smoother skin. When wearing tight clothing, embarrasing contours are reduced or eliminated.
Vaginal/Vulvar Dryness or Atrophic Vaginitis: Both internally and externally, skin becomes softer and thicker skin. More moisture is present to improve both daily life and make sexual intercourse more enjoyable.
Mild to Moderate Stress Incontinence: this will reduce accidents and leakage and may reduce urge symptoms. Along with Kegel Exercises women may avoid the use of mesh slings in their vaginas.
Sexual or Orgasmic Dysfunction: ThermiVa treatment has been reported to increase sensitivity, deliver more coordinated and stronger muscular contractions, and improve the ability to achieve orgasms faster.
